Since June 2025, volunteering with Sheffield Museums has been one of the most rewarding parts of my professional journey. Every month has brought fresh challenges and exciting opportunities—from caring for collections and evaluating exhibits to engaging with visitors, supporting events, and advocating for accessibility.

💌 Memorable Moments: Craft Jam & Victorian Christmas Market

These diverse experiences have helped me discover where I truly feel at home in the sector, especially in collections care and inclusive engagement. One highlight was contributing a paper-flower idea to the Craft Jam planning session—it was selected for the event, which felt incredibly rewarding. I also loved taking part in the Victorian Christmas Market, where I embraced the Victorian dress code, wearing themed attire and oddity jewellery that reflected my passion for natural history.

The market brought back memories of my first job, as I spent a day helping families with Christmas crafts and co-facilitated my first Talking Tables session using replica Victorian toys. These moments stand out as some of the most meaningful in my public engagement journey so far.

🖼️ Behind the Scenes: Curatorial Experience

I’ve always valued being behind the scenes, involved in everything from the initial ideas to setup and execution. In 2025, I gained valuable curatorial experience working on the New Horizons and Crafted exhibitions, which helped me develop skills in collections care, panel editing, and display design.

☀️ Looking Ahead: Growing in 2026

As 2026 begins, I’m excited to keep building my expertise in collections management, exhibition design, accessibility advocacy, and community-centred engagement. These past six months have shaped my career path more than I ever expected, and I’m deeply grateful for every visitor, staff member, fellow volunteer, and opportunity that have been part of this journey.

Thank you for following along—I look forward to sharing more as my journey continues!
