Today, I took part in the Craft Jam event planning session at the Millennium Gallery — the first planning meeting held by Sheffield Museums Trust to include volunteers in the creative process.

Working alongside event staff and fellow volunteers, we brainstormed sustainable, craft activities using only the materials already available within the Trust. The focus on resourcefulness and collaboration made it a rewarding opportunity to contribute fresh ideas while learning about behind-the-scenes event preparation.

UPDATE: I suggested making paper flowers and it was chosen for the event!

Key Skills Developed:

  • 🎨 Creative Planning Brainstormed engaging craft activities using only existing museum materials.

  • 🤝 Collaboration  Worked closely with museum staff and fellow volunteers to share and refine ideas.

  • 💡 Resourcefulness  Found innovative ways to maximise limited materials for public engagement.

  • 🗣️ Communication  Contributed ideas clearly and constructively within a group setting.

Participating in this session strengthened my understanding of how creativity, accessibility, and collaboration shape public engagement in museums. It reinforced my passion for designing interactive and inclusive experiences that connect audiences with heritage through hands-on creativity.
