I volunteered at this evening event celebrating Pete McKee’s exhibition and Horace Panter’s biography and work with The Specials.
My role involved welcoming and checking in visitors, ensuring tickets were collected, and guiding the audience. After the talk, I supported the team with event pack down, including stacking chairs and clearing the space.
This opportunity helped me build experience in visitor management and event support while contributing to a vibrant cultural celebration at the museum.
Key Skills Developed:
🎟️ Event Support – Assisted with set-up, audience guidance, and bar support in a fast-paced environment.
👋 Public Engagement – Welcomed visitors, answered questions, and promoted positive experiences.
🤝 Team Collaboration – Worked alongside staff and volunteers to ensure smooth delivery.
🌿 Adaptability – Managed varied responsibilities across front-of-house and behind-the-scenes tasks.
Volunteering at the McKee's Listening Party gave me valuable insight into visitor engagement, event logistics, and the importance of creating welcoming spaces for diverse audiences. This experience not only strengthened my understanding of front-of-house operations, but also reinforced my ambition to contribute to accessible and meaningful cultural experiences within the heritage sector.
