As part of the Light and Colour event, I assisted Sheffield Museums with front-of-house visitor engagement, guiding over 200 attendees during the afternoon session. My role included welcoming audiences, collecting donations and feedback, and supporting the smooth delivery of the programme. This experience gave me valuable insight into how scientific principles of light and colour can be translated into accessible, engaging displays, while also strengthening my practical skills in public interaction, event facilitation, and museum support.
Key Skills Gained:
📖 Interpretative Storytelling – recognising how colour palettes and lighting choices shape narrative within displays.
♿ Accessibility Awareness – understanding how design decisions can enhance inclusivity and audience engagement.
💷 Donation Handling – promoting the museum trust while collecting visitor contributions in a professional manner.
🎟️ Event Facilitation – supporting smooth delivery of a museum programme from start to finish.
Supporting the Light and Colour event gave me valuable first-hand experience in visitor engagement, event delivery, and the practicalities of managing large audiences within a museum setting. These opportunities not only reinforced my passion for creating accessible and memorable visitor experiences, but also strengthened my ambition to build a career in collections care and exhibitions.
