Some pet sits are busy and energetic; others are calm, steady, and quietly meaningful. This evening with Anya, Kiki, and Patrick fell firmly into the second category — a cosy, low-key visit centred on routine, reassurance, and comfort.
Spending time with these three always reminds me how individual animals can be, even within the same household. Each sibling has their own rhythm, preferences, and ways of expressing trust, and part of my role is tuning into those differences while keeping the household feeling calm and familiar.
📜 Responsibilities
Feeding was the first priority of the evening, preparing their mixed diet of half raw and half kibble, followed by fresh water for everyone. From there, the focus was on maintaining routine — providing regular toilet breaks, monitoring bathroom habits, and offering gentle enrichment, play, and comfort throughout the visit.
Care was adapted to both the weather and their caregivers’ preferences, including avoiding outdoor walks during heavy rain. I also kept a close eye on Patrick, who can become anxious during fireworks season, making sure he felt safe, supported, and settled as the evening progressed.
As always, I sent regular updates to their caregivers, sharing reassurance and snapshots of how the evening was going.

🧠 Key Skills Developed
Caring for Anya, Kiki, and Patrick continues to strengthen my confidence in multi-dog care, balancing three distinct personalities and needs at once. This sit particularly reinforced the importance of building trust with anxious pets — supporting Patrick through fireworks-related anxiety with patience and calm presence.
It was also another reminder of how quickly bonds can grow when care is consistent and respectful. Even typically reserved dogs, like Kiki, showed moments of affection and ease as the evening unfolded.
Flexibility remained key throughout the visit, from adjusting routines due to weather to responding intuitively to each dog’s mood. Clear, thoughtful communication with their caregivers ensured transparency, trust, and peace of mind.
🐾 A Gentle Kind of Care
Evenings like this may seem simple, but they are built on attentiveness, empathy, and reliability. Pet sitting isn’t just about ticking tasks off a list — it’s about creating a sense of safety and familiarity, especially during quieter moments at home.
Another calm, cosy evening spent doing what I love most: caring quietly, consistently, and with intention.
