Today I attended the Many Voices Project evaluation meeting on public engagement and accessibility at the Millennium Gallery. During the session, I raised several accessibility concerns across Sheffield Museums Trust sites, focusing on ways to improve visitor experience and inclusion.
Key points I raised:
The lack of a dedicated female accessible toilet and the placement of sensory packs at the Millennium Gallery.
The absence of sensory packs and recurring lift accessibility issues at Kelham Island Museum.
The inconsistent organisation and layout of text panel booklets, the lack of Audio Descriptions and Subtitles/Alt Text across sites.
The limited provision of activities for visitors with intellectual disabilities restricts participation and engagement.
By contributing these points, I aimed to support ongoing improvements in accessibility, ensuring Sheffield Museums’ spaces are welcoming and inclusive for all visitors.
