Today I attended the Many Voices Project evaluation meeting on public engagement and accessibility at the Millennium Gallery. During the session, I raised several accessibility concerns across Sheffield Museums Trust sites, focusing on ways to improve visitor experience and inclusion.

Key points I raised:

  • The lack of a dedicated female accessible toilet and the placement of sensory packs at the Millennium Gallery.

  • The absence of sensory packs and recurring lift accessibility issues at Kelham Island Museum.

  • The inconsistent organisation and layout of text panel booklets, the lack of Audio Descriptions and Subtitles/Alt Text across sites.

  • The limited provision of activities for visitors with intellectual disabilities restricts participation and engagement.

By contributing these points, I aimed to support ongoing improvements in accessibility, ensuring Sheffield Museums’ spaces are welcoming and inclusive for all visitors.
